Women’s counseling
As a woman, you have the right to dignity, autonomy, and security. Unfortunately, some men resort to abusing women to assert their dominance. Moreover, abuse is not limited to sexual or physical abuse. Verbal insults, and constant yelling and badgering are also considered abuse under the law. I have helped women overcome their problems by providing one-on-one, compassionate, and nonjudgmental counseling, safety planning, and service referrals. Below, are just some of the issues I have dealt with that pertain to women’s issues:
Assertiveness and Self-Esteem
If you are suffering from lack of assertiveness in your life and need help taking command and being proactive, therapy can help you become a motivational dynamo. Furthermore, I have helped women enhance their self-esteem and self-worth in an empowering, yet pragmatic manner.
Co-dependent Relationships
A co-dependent relationship is a relationship that involves obsessive, altruistic, or narcissistic attachment that hinders one’s well-being and way of life. Therapy can help you regain your self-confidence, self-esteem, and independence or help you end a co-dependent relationship with a maladaptive and malevolent lover in a safe and calm manner.
Nutrition counseling
Dr. Somaia provides, one-on-one, personalized nutrition counseling that will identify weight and health issues and help you attain optimal health and lifestyle goals, without having to compromise choice and pleasure.
Sexual Abuse Treatment
If you have been a victim of sexual abuse and need help moving on and dealing with your feelings of betrayal and violation, therapy can help by confronting and subsequently eliminating the trauma. Dr. Somaia will also provide legal referrals if you want the perpetrator to pay for his crime.
Relationship Counseling
My clinical work includes providing comprehensive couples therapy, helping partners strengthen communication, rebuild trust, navigate conflict, and deepen emotional intimacy. I support couples at all stages of their relationships, whether they are seeking to reconnect, manage transitions, or work through long-standing challenges.
In addition to general couples therapy, my clinical focus includes working with couples from diverse cultural and racial backgrounds. I specialize in helping partners navigate the unique complexities of cross-cultural and interracial relationships, including identity negotiation, communication challenges, cultural value conflicts, and the impact of societal or familial pressures.
My approach integrates evidence-based modalities with a culturally responsive framework to foster mutual understanding, emotional safety, and long-term relational growth. With deep experience in addressing the challenges that cultural differences can bring—whether around values, communication styles, family expectations, or identity—I help partners build resilience, understanding, and a deeper connection across those divides.
